Follow-up College Application Tips for High School Seniors
Most high school seniors have finished completing their college applications, but just because you submitted all of that information, you still have some important things to do and to follow-up on to make sure you don’t have any last second surprises.
According to author Marjorie Hansen Shaevitz, here are some vital pieces of information you should follow in the next month:
Follow up with your high school counselor.
It is a good idea to go and see your high school counselor and remind them to complete the “Midyear Report” forms, if necessary.
Follow up with the colleges.
- For all of the colleges that have contacted you online after you submitted your application, continually check the respective websites and make sure each college has all of the information they need.
- You can also call each college you applied to and one of the admissions officers will let you know if the college has received all of the needed information. If you need to still submit something, find out exactly what it is and let the admissions person you are talking to that you will send it immediately.
- It is important to also update any “new” information you have that wasn’t included in your original application. Email or send that information as soon as you can. This could be any academic awards, athletic awards, update community service or volunteer work, or any other accomplishment you believe is important.
- Finally, if, by chance, you have had any changes in your academic record, it is important to let each college know. This may include a change in school, a possible bad grade, or a class that you have added or dropped.
