Start Spring Semester on the Right Foot
Winter break is over, and it’s time to get back into your normal routine. Or perhaps it’s time to get into an even better routine! Now that you’ve had a chance to rest and recover from fall semester, try these tips to make this semester your best one yet.
Get to know your teachers. If you have any new teachers, or just want to make a better impression with your current ones, make an effort to be more involved in class. Raise your hand, ask questions, or hang around after class to clarify topics that are difficult for you. If your teacher encourages email correspondence, take advantage of the opportunity to gain clarity on assignments.
Set up a healthier daily schedule. A healthy body promotes a healthy mind. Go to bed and wake up at the same times each day. Choose healthier meals and snacks, and exercise for at least half an hour each day. Ditch unhealthy habits that are holding you back. Any change feels difficult for about three weeks, and then your new routine becomes habit.
Make new friends. If you don’t have any friends in some of your classes, make the first move and get to know someone new. Having at least one friend in each class becomes a terrific resource. This person will let you borrow their notes or collaborate with you on assignments.
Schedule a daily study time. Do you remember the last time you procrastinated, and spent a frantic night cramming for a test or writing an enormous paper? It probably served as a valuable lesson! Set aside a specific study time each day, so that you never have to feel that last-minute panic again.
Academics are all about balance. Healthy habits, regular study times, and even socialization combine to help you become a well-rounded, enthusiastic learner. These are the qualities that impress college admissions boards, and will help you succeed in all areas of life.
