Tips for High School Juniors for the New Year

For current high school juniors, the start of 2016 is the time for you to begin getting serious about college by creating and organizing a month by month action plan.

A recent article from usatoday.com shared a variety of tips on how to do this.

  • January

Figure out if you are going to take the SAT, ACT, or both and decide when you are going to take each one. If you are thinking about applying early action or early decision, you most likely will want to take these exams in the summer. By doing this, if you don’t achieve the scores you want, you can take them again in October.

In addition, knowing when you are going to take the tests will allow you to create a study plan. Remember, that test preparation for the SAT and ACT is essential and Advanced College Solutions, Inc. offers this for you!

Start doing your research on the universities that interest you. Know what you want academically, socially, culturally, and geographically, and then start your research to identify those colleges you are serious about applying to.

  • March

Make sure you spend time with your high school counselor and let him or her know the colleges that are on your list so he or she can help you with any information that may be helpful. It is also important to communicate which classes you want or need to take your senior year so you meet all of the requirements for the colleges you want to apply to.

  • April

A few months before summer is a great time to start thinking about what you are going to do over the summer break. Start looking for internships, places to volunteer, and potential jobs by contacting organizations to see what they have to offer.

  • May

Are you involved in clubs or organizations on your high school campus? If you are, make sure you find out information about leadership roles you can have your senior year. Identify which club or organization you feel you can make the biggest difference in, and see what is needed to be elected to a major leadership position.
